As auto shredders look for maximum throughput, either through larger auto shredders or handling a wider, and heavier types of metal, Columbia Steel if seeing a renewed interest in its Double Beam grates.
Greg Stegmaier, product manager for shredders for Columbia Steel, notes that with many of the larger auto shredders providing greater horsepower, companies are finding out that this requires other equipment that is capable of handling more material. With the cost of installing and operating an auto shredder significant, many of these newer installs are looking to run their equipment for longer periods of time.
At the same time, those operators who run older auto shredders are under many of the same challenges, and are looking for ways to push more material through their system.
Stegmaier notes that with the Double Beam Grate shredder operators can increase their throughput, while also reducing the bowing of some single beam grates, lowering the amount of time for service.
Along with the increased throughput offered by Columbia’s Double Grate, the equipment also gives an operator increased shredder openings under every hammer track. Again, Stegmaier notes, the system allows for a company a greater throughput for its machinery.
Stegmaier notes that in the past the double beam had become less popular with many shredders. However, as more auto shredders look to to process more material, more auto shredder operators, including older, systems, are looking to add these grates to improve the output of their equipment.
The key, he adds, is that with quality castings a shredder operator can avoid unscheduled downtime.
