RASAN EQUIPMENT CELEBRATES 25TH YEAR
Grasan, Mansfield, Ohio, formed in 1970 as a conveyor producer, began manufacturing concrete recycling systems in 1985. The company built a prototype plant for a Cleveland contractor, who used it to recycle more than 80 acres of concrete form an old aircraft parking ramp at Rickenbacker Airport in Columbus, Ohio. The recycled material was used on the site as sub-base for a new ramp constructed for Flying Tiger Airlines. Using recycled materials instead of hauling in hundreds of loads of aggregate base saved the contractor more than $1 million.
Since then, Grasan has added significant design improvements to its system. The company today is an experienced designer and manufacturer of road-portable and stationary impact-crusher recycling systems for concrete and asphalt rubble and demolition debris.
C&D DEMONSTRATION PROJECT PIONEERS
CornerStone Material Recovery, Ringwood, Ill., a private waste hauling and construction and demolition debris recycling company, and Gershman, Brickner & Bratton Inc., Falls Church, Va., have completed the first quarter of a project to recycle new residential construction materials generated in southeast Wisconsin.
Funded in part by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the program is the first of its kind in the Wisconsin to recycle construction materials at the point of generation, according to GBB. CornerStone uses mobile equipment to separate corrugated cardboard, wood, carpet padding and scrap metals from waste materials sent to landfills. The recyclable materials are then transported to various recyclers in Wisconsin and Illinois.
The project is already resulting in significant diversion of material, with 46.1 percent by volume of the construction materials collected by CornerStone during the first quarter of the project separated and recovered for recycling, according to GBB. The company currently services 16 developments operated by seven different homebuilders.
