Construction & Demolition Recycling magazine will host the C&D Recycling Forum Oct. 3-5 at the Sheraton Inner Harbor Hotel in Baltimore, Md.
In the opening session Monday, Oct. 4, Bob Brickner of GBB Inc., Fairfax, Va., will offer a history of the C&D recycling industry. In “Recycling vs. Disposal—Changes and Choices,” Brickner will review the history of how mixed C&D materials have been managed in the past 20 years, including the steady development of recycling options.
He’ll be joined on the panel by industry veteran Burwin Reed of Potomac Landfill in Virginia and by a demolition contractor who has played a part in the sector’s development.
Safety also is on the agenda, in the form of a safe practices workshop on Sunday, Oct. 3 and a session titled “Hazards of the Job” on Tuesday, Oct. 5. The Tuesday session will look at:
• best practices in handling asbestos;
• identifying and handling refrigerants; and
• identifying and properly handling materials coated with lead-based paint.
Other program topics at the C&D Recycling Forum include:
• Considerations when entering the business
• Recycling versus disposal
• On-site crushing
