INTERNATIONAL STEEL REPORT AVAILABLE
An international compilation of reports on the production of clean and defect-free steels is available from Materials Information, a joint service of ASM International, Materials Park, Ohio, and the institute of Materials, London.
The report, Industry Report, Steelmaking and Processing 1993-1994, provides an organized overview of steelmaking research directions, newly-introduced methods and systems and case histories of actual corporate experiences.
The list of steels cited in the report includes alloy steels, carbon steels, stainless steels and specialty steels.
BUY RECYCLED EXPO PROVIDES INCENTIVES
South Florida’s Buy Recycled Expo, one of the largest buy recycled events ever presented in the U.S., will take place May 2 and 3 at the Broward County Convention Center. A public/private initiative, the Expo will encourage businesses, government agencies and consumers to buy and use products made from recycled materials. Special events, interactive demonstrations and a hand-on showcase of products and services are in the works.
The event is sponsored by Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Keep Florida Beautiful and the South Florida Recycling Coalition.
TOP MARYLAND RECYCLERS HONORED
Maryland’s best recyclers and their respective programs will be honored May 24 at a luncheon awards ceremony during the Maryland Recyclers Coalition’s annual recycling conference. The program honors top recyclers in the public, private and non-profit sectors.
Applicants and their programs will be judged based on their effectiveness, innovation, commitment, replicability, economic feasibility, sustainability and waste diversion, according to Susan Combs, MRC’s vice president and awards committee chair.
AISI PROJECTS NEW IMAGE WITH LOGO
The American Iron and Steel Institute, Washington, has replaced its nearly 100-year-old logo and signature with a new logo designed to project a more sleek and dynamic image for an industry on the move.
Steel producers throughout North America have posted significant gains during the past two years, with steel shipments at the highest level in 15 years and most companies restored to profitability in 1994.
Prompted by a comprehensive strategic planning process undertaken in 1993, the AISI’s new logo is one of a series of steps the Institute is taking to unify its family of organizations and increase its visibility throughout North America.
GPI LAUNCHES CLEAR CHOICE AWARDS
The Glass Packaging Institute, Washington, has launched its 1995 Clear Choice Awards. The awards program, in its seventh year, recognizes products that are successful at making glass an integral and effective part of their packaging.
CAWF RELEASES RECYCLING REPORT
Californians Against Waste Foundation, Sacramento, Calif., has released a report aimed at showing that the benefits of recycling, waste reduction and reuse practices are more far reaching than previously realized, particularly in California.
According to the report, recycling the equivalent of one day's worth of California recyclables creates more than 81 jobs, compared to only two jobs from recycling the same materials. In a year's time, the state's recycling, reuse and composting industries generate sales and services exceeding $2 billion per year and employ nearly 20,000 people. The report estimates that employment in these industries could triple within five years.
ISRI PUBLISHES PUBS CATALOG
The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc., Washington, has published a Catalog of Publications and Audio Visuals. Categories included in the publication include industry and business information, environmental compliance, safe operations and OSHA compliance, metals identification, industry policy positions and public relations.
IISI RELEASES PROCEEDINGS
The International Iron & Steel Institute, Brussels, Belgium, has published the Report of Proceedings of its 28th annual conference, held last October in Colorado Springs, U.S.A. The report includes the short- to medium-term forecast for world steel demand by IISI Secretary General Lenhard Holschuh, as well as the complete panel discussions and question and answer sessions.
CONEXPO-CON/AGG PLANNED FOR 1996
CONEXPO-CON/AGG'96, an international exposition for the aggregates, construction and ready mixed concrete industries, is planned for March 20 through 24, 1996 in Las Vegas.
The trade show is designed to integrate producer and contractor perspectives and offer show attendees a wider variety of equipment and seminars that any other exhibition in the Western Hemisphere.
The seminar program has been expanded to cover all industry segments, with more technical sessions.
