BIR WORKS WITH CHINA ON RECYCLING
China’s first exhibition of recycling equipment and techniques, held in Beijing in December, was officially opened by Francis Veys, secretary general of the Bureau of International Recycling, Brussels, who presented the opening speech. At the event, Veys and other BIR officials met with Chinese National Environmental Protection Agency personnel to ensure that "confusion does not result in the interference with the free movement of the harmless materials that represent the overwhelming portion of trade in recyclables," according to Veys.
NEW EVENTS PLANNED FOR NRC CONGRESS
New institutional recycling, construction and demolition debris, and household hazardous waste disciplines will be added to the program at the National Recycling Coalition’s 15th Annual Congress & Exposition to be held Sept. 17 through 19 in Pittsburgh. Those areas are in addition to the ten current educational tracks on collection and processing, source reduction/reuse, market development, policy and programs, business recycling, international recycling, organics and com-posting, ReTAP technology, recycling information systems and public education.
In addition, NRC will once again be providing the opportunity for attendees to participate in several technical recycling tours for hands-on experience.

NRC CHANGES NOMINATION PROCEDURE
In an effort to reduce paper, the National Recycling Coalition, Alexandria, wants its 3,700 members to call in Board of Director nominations, rather than mailing back a form. Nominations should be phoned in confidence to either Coy Smith at (510) 465-6333, or to Bill Heenan at (412) 922-2772. NRC officials say that there may be as many as 18 positions opening on the Board in 1996. The position openings will be announced in May.
