ARA ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) named new officers to its Executive Committee at its recent annual convention. The new Executive Committee includes: president, Norm Wright, Stadium Auto & Truck Parts, Denver; first vice president, Mark Buessing, American Auto Recycling, Chandler, Ariz.; second vice president/treasurer, Ginny Whelan, Pro Auto Recyclers, Ocean, N.J.; third vice president, Herb Lieberman, Lakenor Auto Salvage, Santa Fe Springs, Calif.; and secretary, Art Heberer, III, Import Auto Recycling, Inc., Salem, Va. Last year’s president, Don Cowell, Swift Auto Salvage, Des Moines, Iowa, will also serve on the committee.

ARA President Norm Wright said that among his primary goals for his tenure will be to enlarge the membership base of ARA with “quality auto recycling facilities that are willing to be active assets to the association and the auto recycling industry as a whole.”

Fairfax, Va.-based ARA is an international association for auto recyclers with member companies in 18 countries worldwide.

STEEL RECYCLING INSTITUTE WINS AWARD

The Steel Recycling Institute (SRI), Pittsburgh, won the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) Environmentalist of the Year Award. The award is given by MEMA, the Filter Manufacturers Council (FMC), and the MEMA Environmental Institute Inc.

SRI earned the award for its ongoing efforts to develop educational materials on the recyclability of used steel products, including scrap tires, oil filters and even automobiles.
