The purchase by Van Gundy’s AMPCO Inc., Grand Junction, Colo., of a customized software package has helped the scrap company in several ways.
According to Randy Van Gundy, “We recently installed a custom-tailored, industry-specific, Web-based software system, created by PIC Business Systems of San Antonio. The new system has virtually doubled [the capacity of] our collection and customer payment process through the use of touch-screen monitors, barcode ticket printers, signature pads, driver’s license scanners and an automated cash dispenser.”
The PIC system has brought with it several other benefits, says Randy. “In addition to automating the process of purchasing and selling materials, the system includes inventory management, loss prevention controls and integrated accounting and financial reporting.”
Both company security and company operations benefit from cameras that come along with the system, he notes. “We can also view yard activity via cameras that can be accessed over the Web via smart phones or iPads and we can make material pricing changes 24/7. We are now able to better manage the business and our overall performance.”
