In Memoriam: John Crabb

John Crabb, former CEO of Sims Ltd. Australia and past president of the Brussels-based Bureau of International Recycling (BIR), has passed away at the age of 71.

Crabb started his career with Sims as a trainee, ultimately becoming the company’s chief executive officer. During his career with Sims, he also served as the general manger for the company’s New South Wales operation and as chief general manger, Australia, in 1983.

Crabb was instrumental in Sims becoming a publicly traded company. He spent 37 years with Sims, retiring from the company in 2002.
 


Metalico Adds Two to Senior Staff

Cranford, N.J.-based Metalico Inc. has hired veteran scrap executive Kenneth Mueller to oversee its scrap metal recycling operations while also formalizing new duties for Michael Drury in its platinum group metals (PGM) and lead fabricating operations.

Mueller joins the company as its senior vice president and COO of ferrous and nonferrous scrap metal recycling. Drury, a longtime Metalico executive vice president, will serve as COO for its PGM and lead operations. Mueller began his recycling career with Luria Bros. Since then, he has held various managerial positions with The Snyder Group, Columbia Iron and Metal and Cozzi Iron and Metal. In 1997, Mueller became president of Metal Management Arizona. Most recently, he was Western regional president of Sims Metal Management, based out of Phoenix.

Drury has been an executive vice president of Metalico since the company’s founding in 1997. He has worked with the company’s lead fabricating segment and its PGM business since Metalico entered that business in 2007.

Carlos Agüero, Metalico president and CEO, says, “We are delighted to add a veteran of Ken Mueller’s caliber to our management team. Ken brings an ideal set of skills and experience to head our scrap recycling segment as we concentrate on the considerable number of growth opportunities.”

Aguero adds, “Mike Drury has been a hands-on manager of our PGM and Lead businesses for years, and we’re happy to recognize him for it.”


Green EnviroTech Names New COO

Green EnviroTech Corp., Riverbank, Calif., and Green EnviroTech Corp., its wholly owned subsidiary, have announced the resignation of Jeffrey Chartier as president and director.

The company has appointed Lou Perches as its new chief operating officer.

Wayne Leggett, who has served as CFO since March 2010, has been appointed to the company’s board of directors. He will continue to hold the position of CFO.

Perches comes to Green EnviroTech with more than 35 years of experience in the plastic industry.

Green EnviroTech is a plastics recovery, separation, cleaning and recycling company.


Connecticut Recyclers Coalition Elects President

The Connecticut Recyclers Coalition (CRC) has elected Paul Nonnenmacher, director of public affairs for the Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority (CRRA), as its new president.

In his capacity with CRRA, Nonnenmacher oversaw the recycling education programs offered by CRRA at its Trash Museum in Hartford, Conn., and the Garbage Museum in Stratford, Conn.

CRC says its priorities include:
1. Providing commercial and industrial members with techniques to cut costs through recycling and source reduction; 2. Supporting Connecticut’s legislative goal of recycling 58 percent of the waste stream;
3. Stimulating and creating markets for recyclables;
4. Advocating for pollution prevention;
5. Promoting composting of organic materials and recycling of non-mandated items to the extent that the market will bear; and
6. Advocating the manufacture of less toxic products and encourage household hazardous waste collection programs and public education programs.
