RAA ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH SIMS GROUP
Recycle America Alliance LLC (RRA), Houston, has announced Sims Group USA, Richmond, Calif., as its new service partner. Sims Group will provide de-manufacturing services for materials collected or managed by RAA’s eCycling service in central and northern California. Both parties will work together on marketing commodities to end markets, particularly those from end of life products.
"This is a big step forward in building our California electronics recycling infrastructure for the ever growing volumes of TVs, monitors and other e-scrap," Kevin McCarthy, director of electronics recycling for Waste Management Inc., majority owner of RAA, says. "Our agreement with Sims Group USA leverages the resources of two premier companies with substantial recycling assets."
"Our relationship with Recycle America Alliance provides us with an immediate and reliable source of material for the plant, and we are pleased to be working with them," Scott Miller, Sims Group USA’s manager of environmental and legal affairs, says.
RAA’s eCycling service enables local and state governments, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), commercial businesses and nonprofits to use a national network of drop-off centers, collection depots and regional processing centers operated by Waste Management and affiliated companies to recycle discarded electronics.
Sims Group operates 12 recycling sites throughout North America in California, Virginia, Illinois and British Columbia, Canada, handling a range of metal, plastic and glass materials. Sims Group is one of the world’s largest recycling companies with international operations in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the United Kingdom and North America.
RAA’s eCycling service, with operations in more than 20 states, describes itself as the nation’s leading coast-to-coast provider of electronics recycling. Recycle America Alliance processes electronics collected at more than 70 recycling or disposal facilities nationwide. It has four processing facilities in Phoenix, Houston, Minneapolis and Kernersville, N.C., and operates a nonferrous scrap metal facility in Long Branch, N.J. RAA has service contracts with ElectroniCycle of Gardner, Mass.; E-Recycling of Southern California of Paramount, Calif.; and Quicksilver Recycling Services of Tampa, Fla.
