SAPPI announced plans to close its Mobile, Ala., paper mill by the
end of the year. The mill produces both coated and uncoated paper. It has an annual
capacity of 300,000 metric tons.
The mill was acquired by SAPPI through its purchase of SD Warren. The
decision to shut the money-losing mill was made after energy costs rose following
the closure of the pulp mill on site that provided energy to the plant.
