Manistique Papers, a subsidiary of Kruger Inc., announced that it recovered 183,000 tons of paper last year, a record for the company. The mill, located in Manistique, Mich., manufactures specialty papers from 100 percent recovered fiber. According to the company the mill was the first paper mill in North America to be certified processed chlorine-free.
At the present time around 18 percent of the recovered fiber used by the mill comes from Michigan sources. This is a significant increase from the middle of last decade when only 3 percent of the recovered fiber used at the mill was generated within the state.
