Granger Recycling Wins City Contract

Granger Recycling was awarded a five-year contract by the city of East Lansing, Mich., to handle the recyclables handled through the city’s curbside program and drop-off sites.

Phil Mikus, head of the company’s recycling division, said the city is expected to generate around 2,250 tons of material a year. Materials handled includes old news, old corrugated, mixed office paper, old magazines, three types of plastics, glass, tin and aluminum.

According to Mikus, Granger, a division of Granger Container, will receive the material that will continue to be collected by the city of East Lansing. According to local press reports, under a new Granger contract, East Lansing would pay $27.50 per ton of recyclable material and would save about $11,000 a year.

The program is expected to start March 1, according to Mikus.
