GP Shutting Washington Mill

Georgia-Pacific is permanently closing its pulp mill and chemical plant in Bellingham, Wash. The company cited high energy costs as the reason for the move. At full capacity the pulp mill could produce 220,000 tons of pulp a year.

The facilities have been closed since late last year due to high electric power costs.

While the pulping operations are closed for good, the company will continue to operate the tissue paper and converting operations at the mill as the company uses temporary electric generators. The mill produces around 93,000 tons of tissue a year.
