Abitibi Agrees to Sell Mill to Kruger

Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. agreed in principle to sell its Wayagamack mill in Trois-Rivieres, Que. to a subsidiary of Kruger Inc. Abitibi hopes to complete the deal by the end of the first quarter.

Plans call for Kruger to convert the mill over a period of time to produce a wide range of coated groundwood paper grades, not a part of Abitibi-Consolidated’s product line.
Additionally, the company will close its No. 1 paper machine at the mill by Feb. 4.
