Pitbull Trailers has announced that it has selected Watson & Chalin (W&C), McKinney, Texas, as its primary supplier of suspensions and axle assemblies.
Andy Miller, operations manager of Newport, Michigan-based LCB Manufacturing, makers of Pitbull Trailers, and Cox Trucking Inc., says, “After extensively testing the W&C suspensions and axle assemblies on our private fleet, we have decided to make W&C our ‘standard’ spec on our roll-off trailer line.”
He continues, “Both the air ride and the mechanical suspensions have proved rugged enough to meet the demands of operating in a scrap hauling environment. The W&C air ride suspension gives us more stable dumping [and] a smoother ride, which translates to less shock load on our drive trains and a comfortable ride for our drivers.”
Miller adds, “Air disc brakes have been in the market for a while now, however we were unable to find any data in how they performed in the scrap industry, so we tested on our private fleet first.”
He says the air disc brakes have been shown to provide many benefits in the company’s operations, including double the brake life on trailers, less maintenance points and less time required for brake jobs.
Rob Cox, CEO of LCB and Cox Trucking, adds, “We constantly battle brake adjustment issues on the standard brake assemblies we run. We do not have these issues with air disc brakes.”
He adds, “As someone who has been behind the wheel hauling fully loaded containers, there is just no comparison between the stopping power of the ADB system compared to conventional drum brake system.”
