CCIC North America to resume accepting preshipment inspection applications

The U.S. operations have been reinstated and will start accepting preshipment inspection applications June 8.

The Brussels-based Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) has notified its members that it has learned that the U.S. operations of China Certification and Inspection Group North America (CCIC NA) have been reinstated and will begin accepting preshipment inspection (PSI) applications beginning June 8.

The BIR says, “In a letter dated 1 June 2018, CCIC North America states that they will start accepting inspection applications on 8 June 2018. Exporting companies using the online PSI for submitting their application are asked to provide detailed information of the inspection site (including company name, full address, on-site contact person’s name, phone number), the estimated inspection date, and give a detailed description of the commodity in the ‘remark’ area of the application page.

“CCIC North America explains they will thereafter need five working days to process PSI applications and arrange an inspection date.”

The message comes nearly one month after a May 4 announcement that China froze out U.S. scrap shipments for 30 days.
