Cambridge Cos. completes construction on Republic Services’ Southern Nevada Recycling Center

Griffith, Indiana-based Cambridge Cos. has completed construction of Republic Services’ Southern Nevada Recycling Center in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The facility’s grand opening was Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015.

Cambridge Cos. has more than 20 years’ experience building waste and recycling facilities across the United States. 

Construction on the Southern Nevada Recycling Center’s began in November 2014. Cambridge Cos. worked with local subcontractors throughout the 12-month project.

The 110,000-square-foot Southern Nevada Recycling Center features advance recycling technologies installed by equipment manufacturer The CP Group, San Diego. Cambridge Cos. describes the facility as the largest single-stream recycling center in the nation, adding that it will double residential recycling capacity in southern Nevada. 

Jeff Eriks, chief business development officer for Cambridge Cos., says, “The Southern Nevada Recycling Center has been a dream to work on, and we are happy to have been able to partner with Republic Services, The CP Group and all the local subcontractors that made this facility come to life. Cambridge Companies is excited about the opportunities it offers the region.” 

The facility features an interactive learning center and advanced recycling technologies, including highly automated control systems, touch-screen human-machine interface control, supervisory control, data acquisition monitoring, remote access to continually monitor operations for optimal performance and five optical sorters to maximize the recovery of PET (polyethylene terephthalate), HDPE (high-density polyethylene) and aseptic containers/cartons. 

The Southern Nevada Recycling Center also includes a solar array on the roof to generate 500 kilowatts of solar power.  This significant investment by Republic Services will help to minimize impact of carbon generation via energy use, according to Cambridge Cos. 

The facility can process roughly 1,000 tons of mixed recyclables per day, or 70 tons per hour, and was built to accommodate future growth within the region, the company adds. . 

Founded in 1988, Cambridge Cos. is a design-build company for the solid waste industry, providing design, consulting, construction and general contracting services throughout the United States.
